Yes. Abortion is completely legal in India under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act 1971, amended in 2021. A woman can terminate a pregnancy up to 20 weeks with one registered doctor approval. Up to 24 weeks is allowed in special circumstances including survivor of sexual assault, foetal abnormalities, and change in marital status. You do not need permission from your husband or family. It is entirely your decision.
Medical abortion (pills) costs Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000 up to 9 weeks of pregnancy. Surgical abortion (S&E or D&C) costs Rs 8,000 to Rs 25,000 depending on gestational age, hospital, and city. MySurgery provides transparent pricing before any procedure — no hidden charges.
Medical abortion uses two medicines — mifepristone and misoprostol — taken under medical supervision. It is available up to 9 weeks, is non-invasive, and takes 1–3 days to complete. Success rate is over 95% up to 7 weeks. Surgical abortion (S&E or D&C) is a quick 10–20 minute procedure done under local or general anaesthesia. It is available up to 20 weeks and gives immediate, complete results.
Yes. MySurgery maintains absolute confidentiality for all MTP procedures. Your information is never shared with anyone — not your family, partner, employer, or anyone else. All procedures are performed at registered hospitals by qualified gynaecologists in a safe, private environment. You can also choose hospitals away from your residential area for additional privacy.
No. Under the MTP Act India 2021, a woman does not need consent from her husband, partner, or family for termination of pregnancy. It is entirely your right and your decision. Only your informed consent is required.
S&E (also called MVA — Manual Vacuum Aspiration or EVA — Electric Vacuum Aspiration) uses gentle suction to empty the uterus. It is the preferred surgical method for early termination up to 12 weeks. The procedure takes 10–15 minutes under local anaesthesia, is highly safe, and has a success rate of over 99%.
D&C involves dilating the cervix and using a curette to remove the uterine contents. It takes 15–20 minutes under local or general anaesthesia. It is used for terminations between 12 and 20 weeks and also for incomplete miscarriage management.
Under the MTP Act 2021: Up to 20 weeks with one registered doctor approval for any woman. Up to 24 weeks for survivors of sexual assault, minors, women with disabilities, change in marital status, and cases of foetal abnormality. Beyond 24 weeks only for severe foetal abnormalities with Medical Board approval.
Yes. Abortion performed by a qualified gynaecologist at a registered facility is one of the safest medical procedures. The risk of serious complications is less than 1%. Risks include incomplete abortion (rare, treated with a repeat procedure), infection (prevented with antibiotics), and heavy bleeding (rare). Untrained or unregistered providers pose serious health risks — always choose a registered gynaecologist.
You can go home the same day. Mild cramping and light bleeding for 1–2 weeks is normal. Avoid sexual intercourse for 2–4 weeks. A follow-up ultrasound at 2 weeks confirms complete termination. Your menstrual cycle returns in 4–6 weeks. Fertility is not affected — you can conceive again when you choose to.
